Financial matters are not my strong suit.
Money has never been a motivator for me -
I would (and have) done my job for free on
many occasions because it is what I love to do,
and money ain't the only way to get paid y'know?
But the economy is obviously becoming a problem,
and I'm growing up (still 28 in Hollywood!)
and having to think about my financial future.
So I tried to get into it.
I went first to where all short haired girls look for guidance,
Suze Orman. She talks a lot about purchases and good debt
and bad debt, and one question kept popping up...
Why is this Boner guy trying to push us over a fiscal cliff?
I'm not even sure what it means - but it sounds scary.
So I started looking online for answers. Here's what I learned:
Rich people really get pissed at the phrase "tax hikes"
(I understand as I, too, am not a fan of hikes)
And I get it. You worked hard for your stuff. You want yr stuff, and you don't understand why you have to share what you have worked so hard for.
I get that. I work hard for my stuff, too, and when I see what gets taken out of my check for taxes - it sickens me. I gulp and my heart starts racing as I start realizing that no matter how many times I re-read the number - it's still gone. But there's a yang to this yin. Which is this: there are people in the world who work hard and don't have much to show for it. They can't catch a break - they work 2 jobs trying to make ends meet - they need more education (which they can't afford) and no matter how hard they work there is little or no hope that they will ever make more than they are making right now, though there expenses will continue to increase.
So this Christmas I hope we will all have a little more compassion for the guy who's got it worse than us. Share something with someone.
Your stuff is never gonna make you happy.
Money is not happiness.
Sharing is the answer.
Sharing your time, your money,
your stories and your successes.
It will make your holidays joy-full again.
Charlie Brown said it best.
"Happiness is having a sister, sharing a sandwich, getting along..."
Happy Christmas Y'all!

Mayanaise
In the event that all this pre-Christmas bloodshed is indeed a sign of the upcoming Mayan Apocalypse (which I think is actually not a doomsday but a new beginning, but what the hell do I know?) In the event that it's all gonna come to a screeching halt on Friday - I'd like to state for the record - I did everything that I could do, a few things I thought I would never do, and some things I should not have done.
And I was afraid to do all of it. But I did it anyway.
So bring on Dec 22 and let's dance 2013. I'm ready!
